KNOW YOUR NEWS SEARCH ENGINES
As a PR consultant, I use both free and paid services to monitor media coverage on our clients and their industries. Whether you are interested in reading today's top headlines, researching past articles on an organization or setting up a search profile to notify you if your company is in the media, news search engines are valuable free resource tools.

Whatever the reasoning to search for news coverage, it is important to understand that news search engines each work differently. When using a news search engine, consider:
  • What media resources does it monitor? Do you want newswires, web-based media sites, weblogs?
  • How often does it monitor or update?
  • Does it archive news coverage, and if so, for how long?
  • Does it have an account-automated service to send you an email to let you know of any media coverage around your account's search criteria?
There are many news search engines available and knowing which one to use can be difficult and time consuming to figure out. Search engine guru Danny Sullivan shares his expertise with his article News Search Engines. Although his list of news search engines does not include one of my favourites, www.worldnews.com, it includes a valuable list of news search engines with free services that should easily meet your basic needs.

Danny Sullivan's top choices can be found below. Check out the entire article at: www.searchenginewatch.com/links/news.html
